THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Work continues to move forward on the renovation and expansion on Armory Field, Thomas' home softball venue.
Within the last week, 2,304 square feet of Tifway 419 Bermuda sod from Pike Creek Turf in Adel, Ga., has been laid in the outfield by Tifway Sports.

Three hundred thirty feet of silver, six-foot tall, chain link fence has been installed in the outfield, defining the dimensions of the new complex to 200 feet down the left and right field foul lines and 220 to center field. The warning track measures 182 inches long from the edge of the grass to the fence down the left and right field lines and 188 inches in center field. Seven hundred fifty feet of six-foot tall perimeter fence has also been erected.
To comply with new NAIA rules, 404 inches of black, six-foot tall, chain link fence that is 30 inches from ground level has been added to the front of the new dugouts to protect bench personnel from softballs hit or thrown in their direction. Each new dugout measure 416 square feet, drastically larger than the previous ones that measured just 140 square feet.
The renovation to Armory Field began May 15. Armory Field is scheduled to re-open Oct. 16 for fall practice with work completed on the complex's enhancements prior to first pitch of the alumni game on Jan. 20, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. ET.
