Thomas Men's Soccer Postgame Report - Middle Georgia State

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25, shut out Middle Georgia State, 4-0, on Monday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex. The win was the fourth-straight over the Knights and ended the Green and White's three-game skid overall.

The Night Hawks improve to 33-9-2 in Thomasville since 2013. The Knights fall to 0-8-1 in their last nine matches.

Thomas (2-4) has outscored Middle Georgia State (0-6-1) 11-2 during its current win streak in the series.

Four different Night Hawks found the back of the net, including three for the first time this year.

"It just shows that we have confidence to get the ball to anyone in front of the goal," Thomas' Jack Chambers said. "All of us are capable of scoring goals, from defenders to strikers. It just shows that in training, when we work on finishing, everyone has been doing it well."

Reigning The Sun Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Leo Thompson picked up two assists in the win. Thompson has recorded at least one point in six-straight matches.

"It was a well-fought battle," Night Hawk coach Ricky Zambrano commented. "We've been grinding for the last few games. A couple of things didn't go our way, but today, they went our way. We got an early goal, which takes the edge off. We kept putting the pressure on from there, and we made some good things happen for us based upon the pressure we put them under."

Chambers (1) beat Knight goalkeeper Benjamin Pelz in the fourth minute following a Thompson cross into the box to open the scoring. A Logan Moriarty cross into the box found the right foot of Sam Eyes (3), who tickled the twine from five yards out in the 17th minute for a 2-0 Thomas edge. Gavin Rochford-Smith (1) put his name in the scoring column in the 32nd minute following a blast from 25 yards out.

Salvador Marin (1) finished off the scoring in the 71st minute after corralling a long pass from Thompson and beating a Middle Georgia State defender and Pelz from eight yards away.

Thompson totaled three shots on goal.

Mauricio Rodriguez, Justin Alonso and Giedo Roth each registered one shot on goal in the loss.

Netminder Ben Barnes (1-1), making his second start this season, earned his fourth-career clean sheet after making three saves in 90 minutes. Barnes improves to 2-0 all-time against the Knights.

Pelz (0-5-1) had five saves.

Thomas outshot the Knights, 16-8.

The Sun Conference play begins for the Night Hawks on Saturday at Ave Maria (Fla.). Kickoff is set for Noon ET.
