WEST POINT, Ga. - Thomas remained unbeaten following Saturday's 4-0 shutout of Point (Ga.) at River Bowl Stadium on the final day of the Jenna Paige Bragg Memorial Classic. The Night Hawks, who posted their second shutout in the first three games this year, are off to their best start since 2012 when the team won its first five matches and lost only once through the first eight contests.
Whitley Anderson scored the first two goals Saturday for Thomas (2-0-1).
Olivia Taylor tied a career-high with three assists after posting three against Brenau (Ga.) on Sept. 10, 2016.Â
Following a scoreless first 45 minutes, Thomas' offensive barrage began less than two minutes after halftime. Taylor found
Linnea Roivas, whose shot attempt hit the right post, but Anderson was in position for the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net. Anderson (3) knocked in a free kick by Taylor in the 55th minute to make the score 2-0.
Taylor Hults'Â (1) first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute put the Green and White up a field goal. Taylor's third assist on the night came in the 66th minute on a score by
Anna Gray (1).
The Night Hawks' second-half onslaught included outshooting the home team 13-2 in the period and 20-7 overall.
Thomas totaled seven corner kicks in the match compared to just one by Point (1-2).
The Night Hawks were also helped by five Skyhawk cautions, including a red card to Tatiana Gonzalez in the 59th minute that put coach
Julie Orlowski's team up a player for the final 31:48. Orlowski is seven wins shy of 50 in her time in Thomasville and five away from 175 for her career.
Hults totaled three shots on goal, while four Thomas players had two apiece.
Goalkeepers
Kara Houston (2-0-1) and
Sierra Robinson combined for the clean sheet. Houston started the match, making two saves in 73:36 before giving way to Robinson for the final 16:24.
Netminder Rachel Ash (1-2) recorded 10 saves in 90 minutes in defeat.
Thomas has a 14-day layoff until its first home match this season when Orlowski's group welcomes NCAA Division II member Albany State (Ga.) to TU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. ET.
