THOMASVILLE, Ga. - No. 11 Bryan (Tenn.) defeated No. 12 Thomas, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at TU Soccer Complex in The Sun Conference Men's Soccer Game of the Week. The Night Hawks suffered their first loss in their last six regular-season matches against ranked opponents and just their second in the last eight such instances.Â
Thomas (0-1), which had won three-straight season openers prior to Saturday, fell to just 7-1-2 in its last 10 games in the month of August. The Night Hawks also lost for just the second time in their last 12 home matches.
Bryan (2-0) scored the first two goals of the match, with the first coming in the 14th minute when Aaron Attree connected with Charlie Clarke (2). Aatree (1) then found the back of the net in the 61st minute from seven yards out on a cross by Jason Ward.
Thomas finally hit paydirt in the 80th minute when
Leo Thompson (1) redirected a short
Billy Jeffery pass with his head into the back of the net, but the Lions added an insurance goal in the 87th minute off the foot of Brad Spooner (3) with aid from Jonathan Ricketts.Â
The contest was very physical, with five yellow cards and 19 fouls being assessed between the two teams.
The Night Hawks outshot Bryan, 13-12, including 7-2 in the first 45 minutes.
Spooner had a game-high four shots on goal.

Jose Carlos Gonzalez Avellaneda each posted two shots on goal for the Green and White.
Goalkeeper Alex Horton (2-0) made four saves in 90 minutes for Bryan.
