Warner Edges TU on Thursday

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Thomas University women's basketball team fell short to Warner University (Fla.), 57-51, on Thursday at the Turner Athletic Center.

The Night Hawks fell to 8-15, 5-10 in The Sun Conference, while the Royals went to 13-14, 7-8 in TSC. TU wraps up the regular season at Johnson & Wales University (Fla.), 2 p.m. Saturday in North Miami, Fla.

J'Nyiah Daniels led the Night Hawks with 13 points, while Arianna Anderson provided 12 points and tied the team-best with seven rebounds. Daycia Bandy pulled in seven rebounds and produced six points.

Micah Garvin knocked down a jumper before Daniels converted two free throws that gave TU a 10-6 lead in the first quarter, its largest lead of the game. Kashari James ended the first period with a made jumper for Warner, while the Night Hawks led 13-11 after the first.

The Royals went on a 4-0 run before and took a 23-19 lead in the second quarter. Bandy ended the first half with an and one right before the buzzer, while Warner led 23-22 at the break.

Warner went on a 7-0 run in the second half and opened a 33-24 lead. The Royals ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run and extended the lead to 42-29.

Warner opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run and pushed the lead to 47-29, its largest of the game. The Night Hawks went on an 11-0 run over a span of a minute and a half and cut the lead to 50-45.

Anderson brought TU within four at 55-51 with 10 seconds remaining in the game. The Royals closed the game with five free throws in the last minute.
