THOMASVILLE, Ga. - No. 8 Keiser (Fla.) defeated Thomas, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in The Sun Conference (TSC) action at TU Soccer Complex, ending the Night Hawks' four-match, regular-season home win streak. The Green and White fell to 7-3 in their last 10 games at TU Soccer Complex.
Keiser (10-1-1, 6-0 TSC) took a one-goal advantage into halftime off an own goal in the 11th minute following a Kiera Heslam corner kick, the first goal allowed by Thomas (5-5-1, 2-3 TSC) in its last five regular-season home matches. The Night Hawks entered Saturday having not allowed a regular-season goal at home in 427:07.
The Seahawks increased their edge to 2-0 in the 50th minute when Amanda Blixt scored the first of her two goals Saturday following a cross from Tova Nilsson.Â
Thomas cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute when
Katy Hunt (1) buried home a rebound of an
Olivia Taylor shot that deflected off the crossbar and back into the field. Taylor has registered at least one point in seven of the last nine matches.
"We came out with a lot of energy and played for each other today," Hunt said. "Olivia is a great player, and other teams are going to key on her, so when I had my opportunity to finish, I took it."
However, Keiser responded with two goals in less than two minutes. A Blixt (8) header found the back of the net off a Filippa Millqvist corner kick in the 60th minute. In the 61st minute, Emma Holmskov (1) scored with assists from Madeleine Berghult and Kendal Davis.Â
Blixt had two shots on goal.
Hunt ended with three shots.
Kayla Folse totaled two shots on goal.Â
Goalkeeper Elsa Netz (10-1-1) made three stops in 90 minutes for the visitors.
Night Hawk netminder
Kara Houston (4-5-1) had two saves in 90 minutes.
Each team fired 12 shots.
Keiser was whistled for 17 fouls, compared to just nine by Thomas.
"I loved the energy we played with today," Thomas coach
Julie Orlowski said. "The difference was just a total of around three minutes in the match when Keiser scored their goals and we had a few defensive lapses. Offensively we had chances but were unable to finish.Â
"We have to take the energy we played with today and carry it forward to Wednesday because another top 25 team is coming to Thomasville, but when we focus on ourselves and play to our full potential and with a sense of urgency, I like our chances against anyone."
The Night Hawks host No. 11 Southeastern (Fla.) in conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is set for Noon ET.
