THOMASVILLE, Ga. -
Gavin Rochford-Smith's two scores Wednesday evening, including a golden goal in the 93rd minute, propelled Thomas past SCAD Savannah (Ga.), 2-1, in overtime in The Sun Conference (TSC) action at Remington Park's Lewis Hall Singletary Soccer Park. The Night Hawks have won three of the last four meetings and improve to 9-0-3 in their last 12 games that have gone into extra time.
After a three-hour lightning delay forced the match to be moved three miles off campus, Rochford-Smith gave Thomas (4-6-1, 2-2-1 TSC) a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when he beat Bee netminder Joe Parker from 10 yards out.
Despite SCAD Savannah (4-7, 3-4 TSC) being a man down for the final 17:49 following Cian Lynch's second yellow card Wednesday, Arthur Bello Veiga (5) tied the affair in the 89th minute on a free kick from 25 yards away.
However, Rochford-Smith (3) played the role of hero 2:35 into the extra frame on a one-timer from 16 yards out.
Rochford-Smith recorded two shots on goal, while four Night Hawks had one apiece.
Lynch, Bello Veiga and Juan Pablo Castillo each had one shot on goal in defeat.
Goalkeeper
Lee Howarth (2-3) made two stops in 92:35 for the win.
Parker (3-6) had four saves in 92:35 in the loss.
Thomas outshot the visitors, 9-5, and held an edge in corner kicks, 4-3. Each team was whistled for 13 fouls, but the Bees totaled three cautions compared to none by the Green and White.
The Night Hawks host Warner (Fla.) for Homecoming on Saturday. Kickoff from TU Soccer Complex is set for Noon ET.
