St. Thomas Tops Night Hawks in New Year Opener

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University women's basketball team fell to St. Thomas, 66-44, Thursday night at the Fernandez Family Center.

The Night Hawks fell to 5-8, 2-3 in The Sun Conference, while the Bobcats went to 6-8, 3-1 in TSC. TU stays in south Florida to play Keiser (Fla.), 2 p.m. Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla.

De'Audra Copeland led the Night Hawks with 11 points, while Arianna Anderson added eight points and five rebounds. Kriza Allen pulled in a team-best six rebounds and added six points.

Copeland gave the Night Hawks their first lead of the game at 3-2 on a made free throw. Daycia Bandy converted a jumper that tied the game at 11-11 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Banby then made two free throws that gave the Night Hawks a 13-11 lead after the first.

Copeland knocked down a jumper and gave TU a 15-11 lead, it's largest lead of the game. The Bobcats went on an 8-0 run and took a 19-15 lead. Arianna Anderson tied the game at 21-21 with two minutes left before halftime. St. Thomas closed the quarter on a 7-2 run and led 28-25 at the break.

The Bobcats opened the second half on an 18-4 run and extended the lead to 46-29. Alexis Moody closed the third quarter with a free throw, while the Bobcats lead 47-32 heading into the final period.

Bandy slimmed the lead to 51-34 with a made layup in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats ended the game on a 7-3 run.

The Night Hawks pulled in 38 rebounds including 11 on the offensive side.
