Night Hawks Slip to No. 17 Middle Georgia

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team fell to No. 17 Middle Georgia, 4-2, on Sunday at Varnedoe Stadium.

The Night Hawks went to 1-2 to open the 2017 season, while the Knights improved to 2-1. TU travels to Jacksonville, Fla. to play a double header against Trinity Baptist College (Fla.) 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Tanner Long went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Wyatt Petrey produced a hit in his only appearance as a pinch hitter.

Taylor Westbrook put the Night Hawks on the scoreboard in the first inning on a wild pitch.

MGA took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, including two runs on an error by TU. Will Golden added an insurance run in the sixth inning on a solo home run.

Long scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI from Levi Hollingsworth.

Justin Young pitched five innings with three runs, one earned, on four hits and struck out five. Chris Rzewnicki threw three innings allowing one run on two hits and struck out two, while Ryan Pierce threw a scoreless and hitless inning of relief.
