No. 7 Southeastern Too Much for TU on Thursday

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball were topped by seventh-ranked Southeastern University (Fla.), 87-61, on Thursday night at the TU Gymnasium. TU forced 29 turnovers and recorded 18 steals in the game.

The Night Hawks fell to 7-11, 4-6 in The Sun Conference, while the Fire improved to 19-0, 11-0 in TSC. TU remains at home to host Keiser University (Fla.) 2 p.m. Saturday in the TU Gymnasium.

Micah Garvin led TU with 17 points and five rebounds, while Kriza Allen added 13 points and five rebounds.

The Fire jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the game before Alexis Moody slimmed the lead to 8-5 with a made layup. SEU went on a 7-0 run before The Night Hawks responded with back-to-back three-pointers and cut the Fire lead to 17-13. Bailey Hooker ended the first quarter with a three that gave Southeastern a 20-13 lead.

Garvin converted a layup a minute into the second quarter that trimmed the SEU lead to 20-15, TU's only points of the quarter. The Fire went on a 17-0 run the rest of the quarter and held a 37-15 lead at halftime.

SEU started the second half on a 6-0 run and jumped out to a 43-15 lead. The Night Hawks responded with a 6-1 run that made the score 44-21. TU then used a 7-2 run to cut back the lead to 47-26. Allen ended the third quarter with two free throws, while SEU led 58-38.

The Night Hawks put on a full court press in the fourth quarter and forced Southeastern into some turnovers late in the game. Despite the pressure from the Night Hawks, the Fire had a response to every TU surge.
