Ave Maria Edges Thomas on Saturday

AVE MARIA, Fla – The Thomas University women's basketball team fell at the hands of Ave Maria University (Fla.) 65-60 on Saturday. TU was on a two-game winning streak heading into the game.

The Night Hawk went to 7-10, 4-5 in The Sun Conference, while the Gyrenes went to 9-9, 5-5 in TSC. TU returns home for a game against Southeastern (Fla.) 8 p.m. Thursday in the TU Gymnasium.

J'Nyiah Daniels led the Night Hawks with 16 points and five assists, while Arianna Anderson provided a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kriza Allen added eight points and eight rebounds.

The Night Hawks started the game on a 6-0 run before the Gyrenes responded and tied the game at 6-6. TU went on a 7-2 run and took a 13-8 lead. Allen converted a layup to end the first quarter, while the Night Hawks led 19-16 at the end of the first period.

Ave started the second quarter with three straight three-pointers and held a 25-21 lead. Daniels sank a three that gave TU a 30-29 lead with two minutes to play before halftime. Mallory Burton converted two free throws to end the half, while TU led 32-31 into the locker room.

Burton converted a three and tied the game at 36-36 early in the third quarter. The Night Hawks ended the period on a 5-2 run and led 50-46 heading into the final period.

Sarah Miller made a free throw that tied the game at 54-54 with six minutes to play in the game. Daniels made one of two free throws and gave TU a 57-56 lead, it's last lead of the game. Ave went on a 5-1 run and took a 62-58 lead. The Gyrenes ended the game with three-straight free throws.
