THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team fell in the 2016 season opener, 3-2 in double overtime, to Columbia University Saturday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.

The Koalas scored the first goal of the season in the 20th minute. Courtney Carrier got behind the back line of the TU defense and beat the keeper inside the 18 yard box to put Columbia up early.

Ciera McGriff leveled the score in the 32nd minute for the Night Hawks' first goal of the season. Kayla Folse took a deep shot that McGriff deflected at the 18 and found the right side of the goal. Two minutes later Olivia Taylor gave TU its first lead of the season. Milene Anstett sent a cross into the middle of the field that was collected by Taylor. Taylor took a turn away from a defender and took a shot that beat the Columbia goalie.

The Night Hawks took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Koalas evened the score for the second time in the 76th minute. The ball was bouncing around inside the 18 that Lexi Cesario collected and scored to tie the game at 2-2.

Amber Tanner netted the game winner in the second overtime. Columbia took a corner kick that was not completely cleared by the Night Hawks. Amber Tanner collected the ball and fired a shot that struck the top corner of the goal in the 114th minute.

TU outshot the Koalas 23-9 and put nine more shots on goal.

Sierra Robinson collected one save for the Night Hawks in the game.
