THOMASVILLE, Ga. – TU softball (11-16, 1-3) dropped three of four games in their two Sun Conference opening series this past Sunday and Monday afternoon at Armory field.
Weather issues forced the Lady Night Hawks to reschedule their first three TSC games back in March, pushing their conference opener into April. However, Mother Nature was not done reaping havoc on the 2016 softball schedule, forcing the games against Warner University (19-15, 4-2) and Southeastern University (30-10, 4-0) to be pushed to Sunday and Monday.
TU opened their TSC slate with a split again Warner on Sunday afternoon. In game one, five errors by Thomas helped WU to a 4-0 blanking of the Lady Night Hawks. Sophomore pitcher
Katie Lopes (5-4) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out seven over seven inning of work. Thomas struck back in game two, with an 8-0 run rule smashing of the Royals. The power bats came alive, rocking Warner pitching with four long balls. Seniors
Chelsea Carter (1-2, R, 2 RBI, HR) and
Rachel Hoeft (1-3, 2 R, RBI, HR) were joined by sophomores
Michael Cooper (1-3, R, 3 RBI, HR) and
Kelsey Connolly (1-3, R, RBI, HR) in the home run parade. Senior pitcher
Ashley Chapman (3-6) surrendered one hit over five innings for the win.
On Monday, TU faced Southeastern, one of the hottest teams in the TSC. SEU showed why they have compiled 30 wins this season, stealing two extra-inning games from the Lady Night Hawks. SEU took game one 4-3 (8 innings) and game two 6-3 (8 innings).
Thomas is back at home on Saturday, when they host a double header against Middle Georgia State University. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
