THOMASVILLE, Ga. – TU sophomore pitcher
Katie Lopes (6-5) tossed a complete game no hitter in game one of a Sun Conference double against the visiting University of South Carolina – Beaufort Sand Sharks (21-18, 3-3). Thomas dropped game two for a split of the double dip.
Lopes kept USCB off balance all game, striking out only two Sand Sharks over the seven frames. The native of Lynn Haven, Fla. walked a batter in the second and mowed down the next 17 Sand Sharks, to secure the 4-0 win. Sophomore
Michael Cooper (2-3, R, 2 RBI) had two hits and drove in two runs.
In game two, TU came within one out of the sweep, allowing USCB to tie the game, at four, on a two out base hit. The Sand Sharks plated the eventual game winner in the ninth and set down Thomas in the bottom half of the frame for a 5-4 win. Senior
Ashley Chapman (3-8) took the hard luck loss, tossing all nine innings while allowing five runs (4 earned) on six hits. Cooper (1-3, R, 2 RBI) drove in another two runs.
The Lady Night Hawks (14-17, 2-4) will hit the road, this coming Saturday & Sunday, for a critical TSC road trip.
