BRUNSWICK, Ga. – TU Softball (10-13) was swept, 7-6 & 6-5, in a Tuesday afternoon double header, by the College of Coastal Georgia (17-7) in Brunswick, Ga.
CCG took game one in eight innings, plating the game winning run on a walk off double that brought home a Sand shark that had reached third on a TU fielding error after starting the inning at second via the international tie-breaker. Junior
Ashley Sikes (1-3, R, 2 RBI, BB, HR) tied the game at six with a two run shot over the left field fence. Senior
Alex VanWagner (3-4, R, RBI, 2B) had three hits in the loss. Senior
Ashley Chapman (2-6) allowed seven runs (six earned) on elven hits, in the losing effort.
In game two, Thomas led 4-0 after 1 ½ but Coastal Georgia stormed back with four runs in the bottom half of the second to tie the game at four. CCG would take a 5-4 advantage in their half of the fifth, this time it was the Lady Night Hawks that responded, tying the game in the sixth when freshman
Megan Withrow (1-2, R) scored from second on a CCG error, after singling to lead off the inning and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. TU would set down the Mariners in the bottom of the inning but stranded the lead run on second in their half of the seventh. Coastal Georgia walked away with the win in the bottom of the inning on a two out base hit to shallow right. Sophomore
Katie Lopes (5-4) took the loss out of the pen, surrendering one run on three hits in 2/3 of an inning. Junior
Brittany Daniels (2-4, R, 2 SB, 2 RBI) drove in two runs.
The Lady Night Hawks open Sun Conference play on Friday, March 25
th, when they host University of South Carolina- Beaufort at Armory Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
