Warner Holds off TU Late

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team fell short against Warner University (Fla.), 63-55, Thursday night at the TU Gymnasium.

The Night Hawks fell to 2-3, 0-1 in The Sun Conference, while the Royals improved to 4-3, 1-0 in TSC. TU continues conference play against Ave Maria University (Fla.) 4 p.m. Saturday at the TU Gymnasium.

Tess Wright led TU with 15 points, while De'Audra Copeland provided 12 points and five rebounds. Micah Garvin produced nine points and four rebounds.

The Night Hawks started the game up 6-2, their largest lead of the game. TU came back and tied the game at 11-11 and held a 13-11 lead after the first quarter.

Arianna Anderson brought the Night Hawks within one at 15-14 in the second quarter. Warner went on an 11-4 run and extended the lead to 26-19. Wright sank a three-pointer before halftime that brought the WU lead to 29-24 at the break.

The Royals opened the second half on a 5-0 run and opened a 34-24 lead. Warner then went on a 7-0 run and led 43-30. The Night Hawks closed the quarter on a 4-0 run while WU led 47-38.

TU went on a 13-2 run and cut the lead to 54-51 with four minutes remaining in the game. J'Nyiah Daniels made a fast break layup and kept the lead at three at 58-55. Warner closed the game with five free throws.
