Strong Second Half Pushes TU Past Truett McConnell

Thomasville, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team collected a 76-65 win over Truett McConnell University (Ga.) Thursday at the TU Gymnasium. TU outscored TMU 43-28 in the second half of the game.

The Night Hawks improved to 2-0 on the young season, while the Bears fell in their season opener. TU ends a three-game home stand to start the season Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. inside the TU Gymnasium.

Arianna Anderson led the Night Hawks with her second-straight double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Daycia Bandy cashed in 16 points and three rebounds, while Micah Garvin provided eight points and nine rebounds for TU.

The Night Hawks opened the game with a 6-2 lead before TMU tied the game at 6-6. The two teams traded baskets before the Bears went on a 5-3 run and took a 19-14 lead. TMU held a slim 23-21 lead after the first quarter.

TU cut the lead to 25-24 on a made layup by Samantha Gilbert in the second quarter. TMU went on a 5-1 run and extended its lead to 33-27. Two free throws and a made layup by Ashleigh Stanley pushed the lead to 37-29. The Bears possessed a 37-33 lead at the break.

TMU opened the third quarter on a 5-0 run and led 42-33, its largest lead of the game, before Garvin connected on a three pointer. The Night Hawks closed the third quarter on an 11-3 run and took a 52-51 lead into the final period, It was their first lead since the 5:53 mark of the first quarter when Anderson converted an and one.

TU started the fourth on a 16-3 run and took a 68-54 lead, its largest of the game. The Night Hawks lead never fell under 10 points the rest of the game.
