Night Hawks Comeback Falls Short Against Brewton-Parker

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's basketball team fell to Brewton-Parker College (Ga.), 70-68, on Friday at the TU Gymnasium. TU had the ball down one with less than 10 seconds remaining in the game, but were unable to collect the win.

The Night Hawks fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Barons went to 2-1 on the year. TU travels for the first time this season to take on Reinhardt at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

J'Nyiah Daniels led the Night Hawks with 21 points, while Micah Garvin produced a double-double with 14 points and led TU with 11 rebounds. Shaunice Bennett recorded a team-high six steals in her first action of the season.

The two teams went back and forth in scoring with the game tied at 7-7. The Night Hawks closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run and led 14-9 at the end of the period.

The Barons took the lead, 17-16, in the second quarter on a made layup by Joy Hadley. The Night Hawks came back and tied the game at 20-20. TU then went on a 5-0 run. Micah Garvin connected on a three-pointer right before the halftime buzzer and gave the Night Hawks a 30-23 lead at the break.

TU opened the second half on a 10-4 run and took a 40-27 lead, it's largest of the game. The Barons responded with an 11-2 run, while the Night Hawks led 42-38 into the final quarter.

Brewton-Parker tied the game at 53-53 with 4:26 left in the game. The Barons then went on a 10-1 run and opened up a 63-54 lead. Daniels knocked down three three-pointers in the final minute of the game and brought TU back within one at 68-67. The Night Hawks got a steal and had the ball in the last eight seconds of the game but were unable to take the lead.
