Thomas Sweeps Season Series vs. Seahawks

Jason Hendrix | Sports Information Director

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Thomas University women's basketball team did something for the first time in the program's history they have never accomplished before, sweep Keiser University in a season series.  With tonight's 71-53 victory, the Lady Night Hawks did just that after defeating Keiser 66-61 in Thomasville on Jan. 9.

Keiser jumped out to a 5-0 lead while holding the Lady Night Hawks scoreless until the 5:23 mark left in the opening quarter.  A minute later, Thomas would land its first field goal of the night as the first two points were made on free throws by senior forward Bra'shey Ali.

Thomas pushed the tempo over the next four minutes to take their first lead, 11-10, of the game on a free throw by junior Rayven Thomas.  The Lady Night Hawks held the 14-10 lead after the first quarter and pushed their offensive explosion into the second period where they accumulated a 15-point, 38-23 advantage at its height. That gap was cut to 38-24 heading into the half.

The Lady Seahawks did not go down without a fight as they outscored Thomas 17-8 in the third period to cut the TU advantage to 46-41 heading into the final quarter of action.

The fourth quarter was dominated by an offensive onslaught by Thomas that saw Ali drop nine of her 19 points in the final 10 minutes of action.  Ali picked up her eleventh double-double of the season with her 19 point, 11 rebound performance.

At the buzzer, Thomas pulled out their second victory of the season over Keiser winning 71-53.  Four Lady Night Hawks were in double figures as Bria Joyner-Williams, Tess Wright, and De'Audra Copeland each added 10 points to the winning effort.

The Lady Night Hawks (11-9, 6-4 TSC) return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they host Johnson & Wales University in Sun Conference action. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  The live broadcast for TU vs. JWU can be accessed by clicking here.
