MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University women's soccer team battled through a back-and-forth offensive battle this afternoon before falling 1-0 to 23rd-ranked St. Thomas in their second Sun Conference match of the 2015 season.
"I was proud of the way we battled today," stated head coach
Julie Orlowski. "Unfortunately, we didn't take advantage of our opportunities. Hartley kept us in the game with first half acrobatics."
While St. Thomas outshot the Lady Night Hawks 10-6 in the opening half, the Thomas defensive line and stellar play from keeper
Sara-Ann Hartley kept the game knotted heading into the intermission.
Thomas' lone defensive mistake of the match would ultimately doom the Lady Night Hawks as St. Thomas scored the match's lone goal just 71 seconds into the second half of play.
STU's Sarah Thomasson slipped through Thomas' backline on a long ball and broke away for the 1-on-1 shot against keeper Hartley. Thomasson capitalized to give the Lady Bobcats the 1-0 lead and eventually victory.
Orlowski continued, "We earned three points on the weekend, so we do not go home empty handed. Now, we recover and prepare for a Thursday match."
With the loss, Thomas drops to 4-5, 1-1 TSC, on the year while the Lady Bobcats improve 4-4, 1-1 TSC.
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Thursday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Babson Park, Fla., to face Sun Conference rival Webber International. First touch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
