HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Thomas University women's soccer team concluded their opening weekend road trip this afternoon falling to ninth-ranked William Carey 4-0.
Â
The Lady Crusaders attacked the Thomas defense relentlessly in the opening half of play. Â WCU outshot the Lady Night Hawks 13 to 3; however, keeper
Sara-Ann Hartley stopped six shots in the opening half to keep things close.
Â
William Carey broke the silence in the 32nd minute as freshmen Khaline Jacob, assisted by Sue Kumaning, netted her first career goal to put WCU up 1-0. The Lady Crusaders added to their lead four minutes later as Jacob returned the favor for her teammate, Maggie Otillio, who knocked in the pass to send both squads into the intermission with a 2-0 Lady Crusader advantage.
Â
Thomas continued to struggle on offense in the second half only placing one shot on goal.Â
Â
In 66th minute, WCU went up 3-0 when Jacob netted her second goal of the night. WCU netted its fourth and final goal of the game when junior defender Allison Bunch scored from seven yards out in the 77th minute.
Â
"William Carey is a good team that challenged us in a different way," commented head coach
Julie Orlowski. "A lot of young players got some quality experience. Playing 180 minutes in 24 hours is a tough assignment. We played our best soccer in the last half, so that is very promising. [Our] future is bright."
Â
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Thurs., August 27, when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face Auburn University-Montgomery. First touch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. eastern time, 2:00 p.m. central time. Live stats for Saturday's matchup can be accessed by clicking
