Baseball Drops Series Finale to STU

Jason Hendrix | Sports Information Director | @JasonHendrixSID

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team dropped their series finale against St. Thomas University this afternoon on the road losing the rubber game 13-3.

St. Thomas quickly put themselves out in front in the top of the first inning scoring eight runs.  The Bobcats' starter, Kharlin Sued, pitched five scoreless innings racking up six strikeouts against the 20 batters he face.  The Night Hawks only collected two hits on Sued before he was relieved in the sixth inning.

Thomas' bats were silent until the top of the eighth when they plated three runs to cut the Bobcats' lead to 9-3. Shortstop Jake Desuyo reached first on an error by STU's Bryan Bermudez.  Catcher Kaleb Holbrook then singled to advance Desuyo 90 feet.  After Matthew Brady replaced Holbrook as a courtesy runner, left fielder Jeremy Crosby slapped a single to left field to plate Desuyo for the Night Hawks' first run of the game.

Next, pitch hitter Bo Beauchamp would walk to load the bases.  The Night Hawks would go on to plate two more runs in the inning.  Damon Jackson walked on six pitches to score the second run of the game.  Thomas' final run of the game came on a two out single by JR Cruess that scored Brady from third.  Center fielder Brandon Singer would strike out to end the Night Hawks' rally.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Bobcats would wrap up the contest with a 10-run rule by plating three more runs, ending the contest in a 13-3 loss for the Night Hawks.  TU's starter Monte Reese was credited with the loss.

"We obviously have a lot of changes to make between now and Tuesday," stated head coach Mike Lee. "We need to refocus our attention on making these changes and execute when the opportunities are there."

Thomas drops to 7-4, 1-2 TSC, while St. Thomas improves to 4-3, 2-1 TSC, on the year.

The Night Hawks return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 when they host NCAA Division II foe Georgia Southwestern State University.  First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
