Night Hawks Overcome Royals Late, Win 8-6

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team picked up its second Sun Conference win this afternoon defeating the Royals of Warner University in a come-from-behind 8-6 victory.

The Night Hawks took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Shortstop Jake Desuyo led the game off with a single to right field.  Desuyo advanced to second on a wild pitch by the Royals' starting pitcher, Dylan Heiring, and then onto third on a passed ball.  Two batters later, left fielder Jeremy Crosby lined a single to right to score Desuyo from third.  After Crosby advanced to second on Heiring's second wild pitch of the game, Leo Benjamin would reach on an error by Warner's shortstop.  The error would also plate Crosby for the second Night Hawk run of the game.  Warner responded in the bottom frame of the inning to take the 3-2 lead.

In the top of the second, Thomas would tie the game at 3-3 when catcher Kaleb Holbrook lined a single through the right side of the infield to score Desuyo from third.

Warner would regain the 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

After three scoreless innings, the Night Hawks would rally to score five runs in the top of the ninth.  While the Royals tried to produce a comeback effort, the three run lead was too much to overcome down the stretch leading to the 8-6 victory for the Night Hawks.

TU's Tate Lambert picked up the win while Warner's Broderick Rodocker was credited with the loss.

"Good win today," stated head coach Mike Lee.  "While we did pull this one out, we have to take care of our business earlier in game whether than fight from behind."

Thomas improves to 8-4, 2-2 TSC on the year while Warner drops to 3-7, 1-3 TSC.

The Night Hawks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they wrap up their three game set against Warner University in double-header action.  Game one is set for 11 a.m. while game two will take place 30 minutes after the completion of the first.
