Significant Opportunity Awaits Lady Night Hawks

Jacob Dennis | Sports Information Intern | @jakeyd_8

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team's three-match winning streak is impressive, as the Lady Night Hawks have outscored opponents 11-2 during the stretch to move into sole possession of fourth place in the Sun Conference.

Winning a fourth straight, however, would take the streak to a whole new level of significance.

The Lady Night Hawks will play host to nationally-ranked conference foe SCAD-Savannah (12-3-2, 9-0 TSC), a team that is skyrocketing up the national polls thanks to a 10-match winning streak, on Oct. 28 at Remington Park in the two teams' regular season finale.

While Thomas has already positioned itself well for the beginning of the Sun Conference tournament on Nov. 9, a solid performance on Wednesday against the conference's best team would be one of the Lady Night Hawks' most impressive accomplishments to date.

Senior Olivia Buechler is the top returning player for SCAD, as she garnered Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2014 in addition to being named First Team All-TSC.

Seniors Natalie Besl and Meadhbh Deeney also earned postseason recognition by earning spots on the Second-Team All-TSC list.  The Lady Bees' balanced production and veteran roster (eight seniors and seven juniors) has the team positioned for a repeat run to the conference finals.  Last season, SCAD earned a spot in the championship but lost 3-1 to Keiser.

Deeney has been the Lady Bees' top performer this season, as her nine goals and nine assists lead the team in both categories.

The Lady Night Hawks will conclude the 2015 regular season with either eight or nine wins, an impressive feat considering the difficulty of the team's schedule.  Thomas didn't play its third home game until early-October, and seven of the team's 17 matches pitted the Lady Night Hawks against a team that was either nationally-ranked or receiving votes.

The team has made noticeable improvements on defense and the numbers support that notion.  Since Oct. 9, Thomas is allowing just over one goal per match, a significant difference from the 2.55 scores the Lady Night Hawks were allowing prior to that date.

Another strong defensive effort will need to be in the cards on Wednesday against a Lady Bees side that has scored less than two goals just three times since the beginning of September.

First touch versus SCAD-Savannah at Remington Park is scheduled for 5:00.
