WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After coming off an emotion and hard fought 1-0 victory over Johnson and Wales on Friday, the Thomas University women's soccer team battled hard against the third-ranked Keiser University Lady Seahawks but were shutout in KU's 4-0 victory. The final road game of the year now puts Thomas back at the TU Soccer Complex for the remainder of the regular season.
Keiser scored the opening goal in the 18th minute. Forward Johanna Engberg netted her first of three goals on the afternoon, 12th, 13th, and 14 on the season, when she headed a free kick from Linnea Lindmark from 30 yards out.
The Lady Night Hawks would hold tough for the remainder of the first half without surrendering a goal as both squads headed into the intermission with a 1-0 Lady Seahawk lead.
The majority of Keiser's damage came in the second half of play where they scored three goals en route to a 4-0 victory.
Thomas struggled to muster any offense as Keiser held the ball in the Lady Night Hawks' end of the pitch for most of the match. Senior
Adrianna Johnson had Thomas' best look of the day just before the half when her shot narrowly sailed high of the goal.
"We really played well today. Maybe our best soccer yet," stated head coach
Julie Orlowski. "The first two goals off set pieces really hurt us. Other than that, we made things predictable. We knew we would be limited in our opportunities, unfortunately we couldn't convert on our corners and set pieces. We had three great looks in each half and couldn't find a quality strike on frame."
With the loss, Thomas drops to 5-8, 2-4 TSC, on the year while the third-ranked Lady Seahawks improve to 9-2-1, 5-1 TSC.
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they return home to the TU Soccer Complex to face Sun Conference rival Ave Maria University. First touch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
