THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University women's soccer team recorded its second shutout victory of the season this evening at home as they blanked the visiting Lady Gyrenes of Ave Maria University in their 3-0 win. During halftime festivities, the Lady Night Hawks also recognized key members of the Thomas University faculty/staff as a part of their Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
The Lady Night Hawks opened their four-game home stand with three Lady Night Hawks contributing goals in the match.
"Anytime you're coming into a game you want to get an early rhythm going. It relaxes the team and gives us confidence that we feed off of," stated head coach
Julie Orlowski. "Today, we did just that."
Sophomore
Olivia Taylor put Thomas up 1-0 in the 10th minute when she received a cross through the box from
Linnea Roivas. Taylor boated the ball into the back of the net for the opening goal.
In the 14th minute, Roivas would earn two points of her season total nine when she netted her fourth goal of the 2015 campaign. Thomas, who went into the intermission with the 2-0 gap over the visiting Lady Gyrenes, would land the third and final goal of the match when senior midfielder
Mackenzie Dolan worked her way through the box and fired a blast into the right corner of the net. Dolan's seventh goal of the season leads Thomas.
Orlowski continued, "I think we did very well. We're starting to see some of the images and pieces of the puzzle going together. We had the opportunity to have several players log quality minutes tonight and see some game action at the conference level. It's great to start this home stand off with a victory, and hopefully we can continue this effort on Saturday against SEU. We're young and are finally gaining experience while learning from our failures. We've eliminated a lot of the early mistakes of the season and now are taking advantage of what we've learned."
With the win, Thomas improves to 6-8, 3-4 TSC, on the year while the Lady Gyrenes drop to 5-7, 1-5 TSC.
The Lady Night Hawks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they host Sun Conference rival Southeastern University. First touch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
