Â
The Night Hawks came out fighting in the first half of the competition, seeking another "W". Within six minutes of play, TU took the early lead. Junior Lyle Gifford (1G, 1A) set up a nice ball to assist the first goal by Freshman Jonathon McGrath (1G). MGS had one shot on goal in the first half without success, so the competition entered half time with MGS trailing TU 1-0.Â
The second half proved to be a brutal, physical match up. Senior
Diego Hurtado made a strike on goal that was deflected off the hands of the goal keeper and was followed up by another immediate strike by Sophomore
Antoine Akoure that was also deflected as MGS held the Night Hawks at 1-0. Gifford sealed the score at 2-0 with his goal in the 80th minute on an assist from Sophomore
Jake Slocombe (1A). TU's Sophomore
Alex Condell managed to hold off six strikes on goal the second half, allowing the Night Hawks to shut out the Knights and soar to victory.
Â
TU Head Men's Soccer Coach,
Ricky Zambrano, commented on the Night Hawk's performance: "I am disappointed with our play today and over the last couple of days, but we did get the result and are still undefeated. We have to get back to playing up to our capability."
