Box Score Thomas University (11-1-2) (6-1 TSC) matched up against the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats (5-7) (2-2 TSC) to add another "W" to their conference record, beating the JWU Wildcats 5-2.
The Wildcats were looking for a brawl early on, netting the first goal of the game just shy of four minutes into the match. However, Junior Defender
Andrew Berg (1A) would deliver an assist to Freshman
Jonathon McGrath (2G, 1A) to bind the game, 1-1. Flying into halftime, the match remained a stalemate.
Opening the second half, JWU came out striking and scored their second goal after eight and a half minutes and taking the lead over the Night hawks 2-1. The Night Hawks remedied the match, scoring two unassisted goals five minutes apart in the 64
th and the 69
th minute of the game by Sophomore
Eric Persson (1G) and Sophomore
Severin Abt (1G), respectively. With the lead of 3-2, TU struck again as McGrath set an assist for the goal of Sophomore
Antoine Akoure (1G, 1A), extending TU's lead to 4-2. The Night Hawks would capture the win, 5-2, on Akoure's assist for McGrath's second goal.
"I think the guys are realizing the importance of being focused and staying focused," said TU Head Men's Soccer Coach,
Ricky Zambrano. "We let them get ahead twice, but we managed to persevere and ultimately got the result. I would like to see this team correct some mistakes as they continue maturing."
With three conference matches remaining in their 2014 season, the No. 4 Thomas University Night Hawks look to extend their Sun Conference record. TU Men's Soccer will match up against Northwood Sunday, October 19
th at 2:00 P.M. at the Thomas University Soccer Complex. The Night Hawks will be honoring their seniors before taking on the Seahawks.
