Night Hawks Drop Two to Lady Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Night Hawks faced a tough challenge against RV Faulkner University (Ala.) at Armory Field on Tuesday, dropping both ends of the doubleheader.  

Game 2: Thomas 6, Faulkner 14
In the first game, Thomas came out swinging in the first inning. After allowing two early runs, Cloey O'Doniel smashed a two-run homer, bringing home Ava Nunez. Singles from Alexis Adams and Ashlyn Powell set the stage for Baileigh Herrera's double, pushing Thomas into a 3–2 lead after one. The Night Hawks kept the momentum in the second inning, as Cameron Clontz doubled, and O'Doniel later doubled to drive in two more runs, stretching the lead to 5–2. 

In the third inning, Powell crossed home plate courtesy of a Clontz single, nudging the score to 6–2. However, Faulkner began closing in during the fifth inning with a home run, narrowing the gap to 6–3.

The sixth inning turned the tide as Faulkner surged ahead with five runs, leveraging a string of hits and stolen bases to take an 8–6 lead. They sealed their victory in the seventh inning, tacking on six more runs to finish the game at 14–6.

On the mound , Baileigh Herrera pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out one, and walking two, throwing 51 strikes out of 78 pitches. Taylor Young stepped in for relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings to close out the game. 


Game 2: Thomas 1, Faulkner 9
In the second game, Faulkner wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  Faulkner widened the gap in the second inning with four more runs, leading Thomas to head into the third inning trailing 6-0.

The Night Hawks finally got on the board in the fourth inning, thanks to a solo home run from O'Doniel to center field. However, Faulkner responded with three more runs that inning, making the score 9-1 after four innings. No further runs were scored in the fifth and sixth innings, cementing the final score.

 In the second game, Cameron Clontz pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs, while Kinley Libby provided relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and zero earned runs.

O'Doniel shone in both games, contributing a home run and driving in four runs in the first game, while also adding a home run and an RBI in the second game. Grace Hodges collected hits in both games, including a double, and Clontz contributed two hits in the first game.

Next up, Thomas will host Brewton-Parker Christian on Wednesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Armory Field in Thomasville, Georgia.
