Night Hawks Extend Winning Streak to Six with Season Sweep Over Point

WEST POINT, Ga. — Thomas earned the season sweep over Point after a 4-1 win and a 3-0 shutout to extend their win streak to six,Tuesday afternoon at the Point University softball comple

Game 1: Thomas 4, Point 1
Alexis Adams drove in two runs and Baileigh Herrera threw a complete-game gem as Thomas defeated Point, 4-1.

Herrera worked all seven innings, scattering four hits while striking out four and walking two on 102 pitches. The right-hander retired the Skyhawks in order in four of the seven frames and did not allow an earned run until the seventh inning.

Adams led the Thomas offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. She put the Night Hawks on the board in the first inning, driving in Cloey O'Doniel with a two-out single to right field after O'Doniel had doubled to start the rally.

Thomas broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating two runs to extend its lead to 3-0. With the bases loaded, Herrera delivered a run-scoring single to right field to score Adams. Natalie Hiles then drew a bases-loaded walk to push another run across.

The Night Hawks added an insurance run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Adams that scored Grace Hodges, who had led off the frame with a single to center.

Hodges finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Herrera went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a hit by pitch. Hiles contributed a run-scoring walk out of the nine-hole.

Point's lone run came in the seventh inning when Anna McMahan singled home Sarah Hinely, who had reached on a walk. Herrera worked out of the bases loaded threat to close out the win.


Game 2: Thomas 3, Point 0
Cameron Clontz delivered a dominant performance in the circle and a pair of pinch-hit singles broke the game open in the sixth inning as Thomas blanked Point, 3-0, Tuesday afternoon to complete a doubleheader sweep and extend the Night Hawks' winning streak to six games.

Clontz worked 6.1 innings, holding the Skyhawks hitless through the first four frames before settling in to allow five hits with no runs, issuing four walks and striking out five. Baileigh Herrera entered in relief and retired the final two batters to earn the save, completing the shutout.

Thomas  struck first in the opening inning when Ava Nunez led off with a double and came around to score on a run-scoring single by Grace Hodges. The Night Hawks then went dormant offensively until a two-out rally in the sixth turned a tight game into a comfortable victory.

Ashlyn Powell opened the sixth with a single to right field and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Clontz. Pinch-hitter Bradleigh Lott then delivered a run-scoring single to center that plated Powell and chased Point starter Chloe Mitcham. With left-hander Taylor Gajdik now in the circle, Maggie Stubbs singled and pinch-hitter Kinley Libby followed with an RBI single to left that scored Lott, extending the lead to 3-0.

Hodges paced the offense with a 2-for-4 outing and an RBI. Nunez also went 2-for-4 with a double, while Powell and Stubbs each collected two hits. Lott hit her first RBI single of her career delivering big as a pinch hitter.
Libby also added in an RBI single to the offensive effort.

The sweep gives Thomas a season sweep victory over Point and caps a stretch of six consecutive wins for the Night Hawks, who outhit the Skyhawks, 11-5, in the nightcap.

The Night Hawks return to action with their in state roadtrip against the ABAC Fillies on Friday April 17, at 1 pm for the start of the doubleheader
