Thomas Secures 12–10 Marathon Victory to Salvage Friday Split

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Thomas secured a 12-10 victory over Brenau University (GA)  in an 11-inning contest held at South Commons on Friday night.
 
Game 1: Thomas 12, Brenau 10. (11 Innings)
Thomas produced 18 hits, including six doubles, while driving in 12 runs to outlast the Golden Tigers in the extra-inning affair.
 
In the first inning, Thomas took an early lead with Cloey O'Doniel's double to center field, bringing in Paisley Wallace and Grace Hodges. Brenau responded with a run on a fielding error, making it 2-1 for Thomas.
 
The second inning saw both teams scoring. Thomas added a run when Hodges singled to right field, allowing Baileigh Herrera to score. The Golden Tigers countered with a home run and two more runs, taking a 4-3 lead.
 
Thomas regained control in the third inning with three runs. O'Doniel scored on a double by Herrera, followed by Rileigh Spinosa's double and Hodges' RBI double. This put Thomas ahead 6-4.
 
Brenau scored three runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a throwing error and a sacrifice fly to lead 7-6.
 
Thomas tied the game in the sixth inning when Adams' single drove in Wallace, making it 7-7.
 
The game remained tied through the seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth, Spinosa's single allowed two runs to score, but the Golden Tigers matched with two runs, tying it 9-9.
 
In the tenth, Adams' double scored a run for Thomas, but Brenau again equalized, making it 10-10.
 
Thomas secured victory in the eleventh inning with two RBI from a single by Maggie Stubbs, giving Thomas a 12-10 lead. The Golden Tigers failed to score in their half, concluding the game.
 
Stubbs pitched 2 innings for Thomas, allowing just 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 1 batter. Stubbs faced 7 batters and threw 17 pitches, 14 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 0.50.
 
Hodges posted three hits and drove in two runs, including a double. Wallace collected three hits and scored three runs, reaching base with three walks. Spinosa drove in three runs and scored twice, adding power with a double. Adams recorded two hits, including a double, while also driving in two runs.
 
 
 
Game 2: Thomas 1, Campbellsville 11. (5 Innings)
 
Thomas fell to Campbellsville University 11-1 in a neutral-site contest at South Commons. Thomas  managed six hits, with its lone run coming in the fourth inning, while the Tigers capitalized on five doubles to secure the victory.
 
Campbellsville University took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. A double brought home a run and the Tigers scored on a dropped fly, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first inning.
 
The second inning saw the Tigers extend their lead significantly, scoring six run off of a single, a double, and a pair of errors.
 
Thomas got on the board in the fourth inning when Paisley Wallace singled and later scored on a single by Alexis Adams.
 
Cameron Clontz pitched 1.1 innings, Taylor Young took over for 2.1  innings, Kinley Libby closed out the pitching effort, recording 1 out without allowing a hit, walk, or run.
 
Wallace recorded two hits and a run, adding a stolen base during the game. Adams contributed an RBI while securing a hit. Katelyn Shiver notched a hit in her plate appearance.
 
The next challenge for Thomas comes on Saturday, Feb. 28, when it hosts the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at South Commons Softball Complex Field 3 in Columbus, Georgia. The matchup is set for noon EST.
