BABSON PARK, Fla. — Thomas University softball battled through an intense extra‑innings pitchers' duel in Game 1 before roaring back with an explosive offensive performance in Game 2 against Webber International.
Game 1: Webber 1, Thomas 0
Game 1 was a classic pitcher's duel, scoreless through seven innings. Thomas starter Baleigh Herrera was dominant, striking out 11 and allowing just 7 hits over 7.2 innings. But Webber matched every punch with ace Taylor Thomas, who threw a complete-game shutout with 8 strikeouts over 124 pitches.
Thomas had multiple chances, collecting 7 hits but stranding 10 runners. A double in the 6th from Cloey O'Doniel was one of the Night Hawks' best opportunities, but Webber pitched out of trouble.
Webber finally broke through in the bottom of the 8th when Sommer Zier‑Norris doubled, advanced, and scored on Thalia Romero's RBI single, sealing the extra‑innings walk-off win.
Ashlyn Powell led the team going 2 for 4.
Game 2: Thomas 9, Webber 3
Thomas flipped the script in Game 2 with 13 hits, aggressive baserunning, and a six‑run explosion in the 9th inning.
After trading early runs, the game stayed tight until the late innings. Then the Night Hawks broke it wide open.
Natalie Hiles delivered an RBI single,
Grace Hodges smashed a bases‑clearing 3 RBI triple.
Ava Nunez and Powell added key hits to extend the lead.
On the day, Hodges was stellar with three hits, 4 RBI, a triple, and a pair of stolen bases. Powell (3‑for‑5), Nunez (2‑for‑4), and Hiles (2‑for‑3) rounded out a relentless Thomas lineup.
Pitchers Cameron Clontz and Maggie Stubbs combined to hold Webber to just 5 hits, with Stubbs earning the win out of the bullpen.
