Big Third Quarter Lifts Night Hawks over SkyHawks

WEST POINT, Ga – The Thomas Night Hawks returned to action in 2026 with an SSAC win over the Point SkyHawks on Thursday night.

LaTarius Montgomery opened the scoring for the Night Hawks with a pair of layups to start the game. Following a couple of shots from the Skyhawks to tie the game at four, both teams ran into trouble finding points as the quarter went on.

With 4:50 left in the first, Kennedy Collins broke the ice with a three to put Thomas ahead by three. Following a free throw from Montgomery, Point answered with a three of their own to cut it down to one, then a jumper from Imani Dennard gave the Skyhawks the lead with 1:42 left in the quarter.

Next, Ameari Logan knocked down a pair of free throws to take back the lead but Point tore off a 5-0 run to regain the lead as the quarter ended.

Moving into the second quarter, the Night Hawks pulled within one thanks to another three from Collins, then a layup from Montgomery put Thomas ahead. However, back-to-back threes sparked a 16-4 run which gave the Skyhawks an 11-point lead going into the locker room.

Following halftime, the Night Hawks began to climb out of the deficit. Montgomery started things off with a layup. After a free throw by Logan, Destiny Hill hit a layup to cut it down to single digits. Next, Collins made a layup and drew the foul, and after converting the and-one attempt, the deficit was now five with 6:08 to go.

After back-to-back layups from Collins and Nandi Ramessar, Thomas brought it to a one-score game. Then Aaliyah Ringold knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Night Hawks in front. Logan added a couple of points from free throws, and then Collins hit her fourth three of the game to go up by six at the end of the third.

In the final quarter, Point was not done as they cut the lead down to two in the early part of the fourth, but a layup from Ringold sparked a 10-2 run. Point tried to keep up, but Collins's fifth three of the game was the dagger that put the Night Hawks up 11 and secured the victory.

Collins ended with 17 points, eight rebounds and was 4-8 from three. Montgomery posted her 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds; she also had a block and a steal. Finally, Logan had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Thomas shot 40.4 percent from the field and outscored the Skyhawks 22-5 in the third quarter.

The Night Hawks will go on the road again as they take on Brewton-Parker on Saturday, January 10th at 12:00p.m.
