THOMASVILLE– The Thomas Night Hawks got back in the win column on Thursday night with a win over the Mobile Lady Rams.
The Night Hawks found themselves down to start the game with a pair of threes from the Lady Rams to up four. But a pair of layups from
Destiny Hill tied the game at six. Mobile got back out in front with a jumper, until a layup from
LaTarius Montgomery cut the lead to one.
Thomas managed to keep the deficit to within three, until another free throw from Montgomery and a layup from
Ameari Logan off a dish from
Aaliyah Ringold tied the game again at 12. Soon the Night Hawks gained their first lead of the game thanks to a layup from
Kennedy Collins off a Ringold pass to go up two with less than a minute to go in the first. Unfortunately, Mobile hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 14 at the end of the period.
The Lady Rams took a four-point advantage early on in second, but later in the quarter, Collins knocked down a three to cut the lead to one, then a layup from Hill put the Night Hawks back in front by one. Next a free throw from Montgomery extended the lead to two, then a technical foul against the Mobile bench, sent
Zyi'Kiera King to the line where she made both technical free throws to give Thomas a four-point cushion.
After a free throw by Hill brought the lead to five, a three from the Lady Rams cut it to two, then a midrange jumper tied the game with 1:17 left in the half.
Next, Ringold came away with a steal and then finished off the break with a layup to break the tie as the Night Hawks carried a 31-29 lead into the locker room.
Mobile went on a 5-0 run to begin the second half, with a layup and a perfect three-for-three trip to the line giving them a three-point advantage. Montgomery cut the lead to one with a pair of free throws and then the Night Hawks regained the lead off a three from Collins.
Unfortunately, the Lady Rams hit one of their own to take back the lead, but Logan knocked down a layup to get back ahead.
Another three from Mobile gave them a one possession lead, but Hill hit another tough layup to tie the game at 40 all.
A possession later, Ringold drew the foul and went perfect at the line to put Thomas back in front. A free throw from Montgomery made it a three-point game, but then a pair of layups from the Lady Rams put them back in front.
Next, a perfect trip to the line for King gave the Night Hawks a one-point lead, then Hill came through with another layup to make it a one-possession game. The Lady Rams did tie the game again with 1:23 left in the third, but a couple of free throws from Hill put them ahead by two.
Unfortunately, a foul by Ringold led to a pair of free throws from Mobile which tied the game heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was a battle, as both teams refused to let the other gain momentum, keeping the margin within three. With 2:47 to go, a Lady Rams layup put them up by one. But Montgomery drew a foul on the next possession and knocked down both free throws to give the Night Hawks a one-point advantage. Then a layup from Logan made it a three-point lead a minute to go in the game. Next, a steal from Montgomery led to a foul on the other end, and Montgomery hit both foul shots to increase the lead to five.
Following a free throw from the Lady Rams and a timeout from Thomas, Ringold drew a foul and went perfect from the line to go up six with 13 seconds to go. After a missed three from Mobile, Montgomery came down with the miss and got fouled, heading to the line and making one free throw to ice the game.
Montgomery notched her 13th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 15 rebounds, going 10-15 from the free throw line. Hill ended with 13 points, eight rebounds, a block and four steals.
Collins had 15 points, going 3-4 from deep, along with six boards and a pair of blocks. Finally, Logan added 12 points with eight rebounds and a block.
The Night Hawks will return to the court to take on Faulkner on Saturday, January 31st at 12:00p.m.
