Night Hawks hammer Skyhawks

WEST POINT, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks went on the road and swept the Point Skyhawks in the penultimate series of the regular season on Friday afternoon.

Thomas 5 Point 1
A four-run fifth inning propelled Thomas past Point, 5-1, in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader.

After Point jumped ahead in the fourth, Thomas tied the game in the fifth inning with a RBI-double by Ava Nunez, who later scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Next, an RBI single from Grace Hodges put Thomas in the lead. The Night Hawks added an insurance run as Alexis Adams reached on an error from the shortstop to score Annalise Buncy and an inning later Nunez hit a second double to bring home Kristin Steller

Cameron Clontz earned her first career win in relief, throwing four shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out two. Sierra Ussery started in the circle, surrendering one run on one hit over three innings.

Nunez went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a stolen base to pace the offense, while Buncy added two hits and a run scored. Thomas finished with eight hits and took advantage of two Point errors.

Point scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a double by Averianna Wapniewski. Taylor Gajdik took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings.

Thomas 3 Point 0
Baileigh Herrera fired a six-hit shutout and Thomas powered three home runs to complete a doubleheader sweep over Point with a 3-0 win Friday afternoon.

Thomas broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Kristin Steller launched her fourth home run of the season to left, then Rlieigh Spinosa stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter and hit her first career homer to go up by two runs. The Night Hawks added to their lead in the fifth as Ansley Eason knocked her first career homer to extend the margin to 3-0.

Herrera was dominant in the circle, scattering six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts and just one walk. She threw 74 pitches, including 49 strikes, and stranded nine Skyhawks baserunners.

Eason and Spinosa each finished with a home run, while Steller went 2-for-3 with a homer and an RBI to pace Thomas' offense. Grace Hodges also chipped in two doubles.

Point threatened in the seventh with a leadoff single but could not solve Herrera, who induced a pair of flyouts and a groundout to end the game.

Thomas concludes its regular-season on Saturday, April 26th at 1:00PM on the road against ABAC.
