THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks fought to the end, but could not overcome two late rallies in a sweep against the #23 Middle Georgia State Knights on Friday afternoon in the SSAC Series of the Week at Armory Field.
Middle Georgia 6 Thomas 1
Middle Georgia State used a four-run fourth inning to pull away and defeat Thomas in Game 1
Thomas got on the board in the second inning when Kristin Steller launched a solo home run to left-center, her third of the season, tying the game at 1-1. That was the only run the Night Hawks could muster against Middle Georgia starter Emily Proctor, who tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out six.
After scoring a run in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead, the Knights broke the game open in the fourth with four runs on four hits, including a two-run single by catcher Kaylee Oliver. Thomas starter Sierra Ussery was charged with four earned runs over 3.2 innings before being relieved by Darian Pippin, who allowed just one run in 3.1 innings of relief.
Thomas threatened in multiple innings, leaving 11 runners on base and loading the bases in both the first and third frames but couldn't capitalize. Annalise Buncy, Ansley Eason and Alexis Adams each collected a hit, while Pippin paced the offense with a 2-for-4 effort.
Middle Georgia 9 Thomas 6
Despite a fast start, The Night Hawks could not hold off the Knights offense in a 9-6 loss during Game 2.
The Night Hawks jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-RBI triple by Buncy and an RBI single by Pippin. Thomas added three more runs in the fifth inning to close the gap to 6-6, highlighted by a run-scoring double by Grace Hodges and a huge two-run shot by Adams.
Middle Georgia responded quickly, reclaiming the lead in the sixth with three runs on four hits off reliever Emylee Mountin. That rally proved to be the difference as the Knights' bullpen shut down Thomas over the final two innings.
Mountin took the loss in relief after starter Baileigh Herrera allowed five runs—four earned—over four innings. The Night Hawks recorded six hits, including extra-base hits from Hodges, Buncy, and Adams.
Eason reached base three times and scored twice from the leadoff spot. Thomas left seven runners on base in the loss.
The Night Hawks will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 12th at 1:00pm against Brewton-Parker.
