Thomas sweeps day two of Gulf Coast Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Night Hawks had to rally in back-to-back games to sweep day two of the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Saturday. Knocking off Texas A&M San Antonio and (RV) Freed-Hardeman.

A late offensive surge propelled Thomas Night Hawks to a 5-3 comeback victory over Texas A&M-San Antonio on Saturday afternoon.

After being held scoreless through the first five innings, the Night Hawks erupted for five runs in the sixth to turn the game around. Annalise Buncy sparked the rally with a two-run double, and Sierra Ussery followed with another clutch double to drive in two more runs, giving Thomas its first lead of the game.

Ussery not only delivered at the plate but also dominated on the mound, tossing a complete-game victory. The right-hander allowed just four hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out four while keeping the Jaguars off balance.

Texas A&M-San Antonio took an early 1-0 lead in the first and added two more runs in the sixth, but Thomas' defense remained solid, committing no errors and limiting the Jaguars' scoring opportunities.

At the plate, Ansley Eason led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, while Buncy and Ussery combined for four RBIs to fuel the Night Hawks' comeback.

THOMAS 7 (RV) FREED-HARDEMAN 6

Seven runs over four straight innings lifted the Night Hawks over recieving votes Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions on Saturday night.

The Lady Lions took the lead early behind back-to-back homers from their three and four hole hitters. However, Thomas was down but not out as the bottom of the first saw Alexis Adams knock a flyout to left to bring home Eason to make it a one run game. Then Darian Pippin knocked a double into left center to score Presley Lewis to tie the game. Eason then added on with a bases clearing triple to give the Night Hawks the lead in the bottom of the second.

Thomas continued to put the pressure on as Ussery hit a home run to up the lead to three, then Adams brought home Grace Hodges on a sacrifice play. Buncy added on with a homer of her own to give the Night Hawks a five-run cushion.

Pippin was in the circle for the Night Hawks as she kept Freed-Hardeman at bay, throwing a complete game and striking out four. In the Sixth, the Lady Lions began to rally as they scored two runs to cut the lead to two and then in the Seventh, a run brought them within a run to tie the game.

With the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first with two outs, Pippin kept her composure and struck out the final batter to get the hard-earned win.

The pair of wins today put the Night Hawks at 3-1 for the tournament as they play their final game of the Gulf Coast Invitational tomorrow, taking on United States Sports Academy at 2:30 PM
