Night Hawks hold strong in split against Eagles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Thomas Night Hawks split against the Faulkner Eagles on Saturday afternoon in the SSAC Series of the Week.

Thomas recorded seven hits but failed to bring a run across, stranding four runners on base. Leadoff hitter Ansley Eason led the effort with a 2-for-3 performance, while Grace Hodges and Annalise Buncy each chipped in two hits
Starting pitcher Sierra Ussery turned in a strong outing despite taking the loss, allowing two runs on four hits across five innings while striking out three. Darian Pippin provided a scoreless inning of relief.
Faulkner did all its damage in the first inning, capitalizing on an early home run by Madelyn Becker. Eagles starter Reece.Patterson kept Thomas off balance all afternoon, scattering seven hits over seven shutout innings.

The Night Hawks fared better in game two as Eason started off the contest with a double, then a hodges single advanced her to third, opening the door for Buncy to bring her home on a hit.
Baileigh Herrera stood in the circle for Thomas and held the Lady Eagles at bay striking out three and allowing one run in 6.2 innings of work. Herrera also hit for herself in the lineup and delivered in the third inning, doubling to left center to score Buncy after she walked to begin the inning.
Buncy added more insurance for the Night Hawks as she brought home Ava Nunez on a groundout to second. In the bottom of the seventh, Pippin came in to close out the game following two outs. Making Evie Polk pop out to the pitcher to win the game.
 
The Night Hawks will return home next week for two tough conference series beginning with #17 William Carey on Friday, March 28th at 1:00PM
