TIFTON, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks travelled an hour up the road for a midweek SSAC contest against SSAC Newcomer ABAC Stallions on Tuesday afternoon.
The game was rescheduled from Wednesday due to weather concerns and the Night Hawks started out fast as
Cameron Tyson ripped a double through to start the game.
Riley Borgert got a hit to advance Tyson to third, then
Max Pickert knocked into a double play, but Tyson came home to put the Night Hawks up early. ABAC managed to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but
Sawyer Smith got the strikeout to get out of the situation. In the second,
Gabe Tafelski got one past the shortstop and
Michael Sowers singled to left to have runners on first and second with one out. However, The Night Hawks could not capitalize on the runner in scoring position.
The Stallions responded in the second with back-to-back doubles from Harrison Childers and Quinten Rawls to bring home a run to tie the game as the inning came to an end. Thomas came back in the third as Borgert singled and then a wild pitch advanced him to second with no outs, but they could not capitalize on the opportunity. On the other side ABAC loaded the bases once again, but the defense held strong to get through the inning.
Following a three and out,
Jonathan Germany came in relief for Smith in the fourth and facing a situation where there were runners on second and third, he held his own and forced the popout to left to keep the game tied
In the sixth, with two outs
Jackson Thomas broke through with a double, and then on back-to-back wild pitches came home to break the tie for the Night Hawks. Talfelski was up to bat and he got a hit and then stole second then Sowers drew a walk to put two on for
Cameron Rosario. Sowers and Tafelski successfully stole second and third respectively to get into scoring position. Rosario drew a second walk to load the bases, but Tyson popped out to first to end the rally for Thomas.
The Stallions fired back in the next half of the inning, as Parker Wallace tripled, then Rawls hit a double to tie the game and the following at bat Dylan Davis knocked another double to take the lead. Then passed ball scored Davis to give ABAC the lead. They extended the lead in the seventh, when a hit by pitch and a wild throw put a runner on third, then a double brought the runner home to make it a three-run deficit for the Night Hawks.
Down to their last three outs, Thomas attempted another rally, but a couple of flyouts brought Tyson to the plate, he hit a double down the right field line bringing up Borgert, however, he grounded out to short to end the game.
The Night Hawks will return home for a SSAC series against #21 Loyola beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, February 21
st at 1:00 PM.
