Night Hawks drop one against Running Eagles

MARIETTA, Ga –The Night Hawks took on the Life University Running Eagles in the second matchup between the teams in 10 days on Saturday afternoon.
 
The first quarter started out similarly as the last meeting between the two, with the Night Hawks jumping out to an early lead. With 3:13 to go, Jasmyn Studamire found her fellow senior Aaliyah Ringold on a cut inside and drained a layup to put Thomas up seven. The two teams traded buckets and The Night Hawks kept the lead going into the second.
 
The quarter began with the Night Hawks taking a double-digit lead thanks to a Studamire layup and a jumper from Destiny Hill. However, Life began to close the gap, bring the lead down to five with 2:26 left in the half. Hill found Studamire down low for layup and Hill made a putback to extend the lead back to nine, with 30 seconds left Kennedy Collins knocked down a three to send Thomas into the locker room up 10.
 
The second half saw the Night Hawks maintain the lead as Hill and Studamire made layups early on, but the Running Eagles went on an 8-2 run to end the quarter only down four. In the final quarter of play Tieraney Bolton made a free throw to bring the lead to five, Life went a on a quick run and got the lead with 7:47 left in the game. The Night Hawks continued to fight as Ringold made one free throw and Bolton went perfect on another trip to the line to make it a one possession game, However, the scoring fell silent as Life added onto the lead and held it to the end of the game.
 
Studamire finished as the leading scorer and rebounder for the Night Hawks, notching a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals. Hill finished with eight rebounds and eight points with a steal, Finally, Bolton had nine points and four rebounds.
 
The Night Hawks face another tough conference opponent as they go on the road next week to face University of Mobile on Thursday, January 23 at 5:30PM CST / 6:30 PM EST.
