ATLANTA, GA | Thomas faced Keiser, for the third time this season, and unfortunately for the Night Hawks, fell to the Seahawks, for the third time this season. Keiser would advance to the National Championship game, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, to face the defending champion, Ottawa (KS), later in the day. Keiser has shut Thomas out in every match-up this season.
Keiser took possession to open the game and drove the ball down the field on Thomas. The Seahawks would score on their opening drive, on a 3rd-and-2 scramble by their quarterback (PAT good), eating five minutes off of the clock.
Thomas would try to answer. After gaining the first down,
Alexa Wilson would toss a 36-yard bomb to
Gisele Jones, good for 36 yards, to set the Night Hawks up in the red zone. But Thomas was unable to capitalize. A critical 4th down completion from Wilson to
Kiera Knight saw Knight's flag pulled, just short of the goal line.
Keiser would march back down the field, into Night Hawk territory.
Aliyah Wood would intercept a Seahawk pass and then lateral to
Gisele Jones. Jones would attempt to lateral to another Night Hawk, but a Keiser player would step in front of the pitch, giving the Seahawks possession, once again. Keiser would add a touchdown at the end of the drive, and compete the 2-point conversion, to take a 14-0 lead over Thomas.
After a Thomas turnover, the defense would keep the Night Hawks in the game, by stopping the Seahawks, on downs, at the TU 8-yard line. Thomas would go into halftime trailing 14-0.
Thomas would open the 2nd half with their longest play of the game, a 37-yard bomb from Wilson to
Nakerra Brown. An interception on the next play would give the ball back to Keiser, but Thomas would force the punt.
Thomas would drive, once again, into Keiser territory, but another turnover, at the Keiser 10-yard line, would leave the Night Hawks without any points. Brown would intercept the pass, on the next play, from the Seahawks. The Keiser defense would stop Thomas, four times inside the 10-yard line, to force the turnover on downs.
As the 4th quarter began, Thomas would force another punt. Thomas would drive to the Keiser 28-yard line, but be unable to get any closer.
Keiser would get the ball back and use their own big play to score. Keiser would toss a 36-yard touchdown pass to ice the game and take a 20-0 lead, with six-minuttes remaining.
Thomas would try to get on the scoreboard, driving the ball into Seahawks territory, once again. An interception at the Keiser 27-yard line would end the Thomas drive.
After the defense forced a three-and-out, Thomas would gain their final possession of the day, with 00:56 on the clock. Running their hurry-up offense, the Night Hawks would drive deep into Keiser territory. But Thomas was unable to capitalize on three consecutive plays from the Seahawk 3-yard line, turning the ball over on downs. Keiser would take one knee to end the contest.
Thomas would out-gain Keiser 288 to 231. Thomas would have 12 first downs, compared to seven for Keiser.
Gisele Jones would have seven receptions for 102 yards.
Kiana Acol would add six catches for 42 yards.
Nakerra Brown would lead the Night Hawks with four flag pulls. The trio of
Aliyah Wood,
Gisele Jones, and
Maddie Hougland would have three flag pulls, each. Brown and Wood would each have an interception on the day.
Kaitlyn Herb recorded one sack, giving her 35 for the season.
In the three year history of Thomas Flag Football, the Night Hawks have accumulated 55 wins, have won two Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Night Hawks have been, at least, one of the last four teams remaining in the national tournament. This season marks the first time that Thomas has not appeared in the national championship game.
