THOMASVILLE, GA | Thomas began their final pair of doubleheaders with a split against the Faulkner Eagles, on Friday, at Armory Field. Closing out the regular season at home, the Night Hawks look to improve their positioning in the upcoming SSAC Softball Tournament.
THOMAS 3, FAULKNER 0
Entering the day with 198 career hits,
Averie Sheppard wasted no time adding to her total. Sheppard wasted no time collecting hit 199, leading off the home-half of the 1st inning with a double to center field. She would be stranded.
Sheppard led off the 3rd inning with another double to center field, for hit 200 in her career. Sheppard would later score on an error on
Ansley Eason's steal attempt. Eason would later score on
Adreanna Killingsworth's homerun to left-center field. Thomas would lead 3-0, after the the 3rd inning.
With the first two batter reaching base in the top of the 7th inning, Thomas pulled off a dramatic finish. Sierra Ussey delivered the first pitch to the third Faulkner batter of the inning. The batter hit a hard ground ball to
Ava Nunez, who was playing 3rd base. Nunez alertly took one step and stepped on the base and then fired the ball to 2nd base.
Kristen Stellar took the throw, stepped on the bag, and then fired the relay throw to
Adreanna Killingsworth at 1st base, to complete the triple play, nailing the runner by a half of a step. The Night Hawks would walk-off with the victory, on a specacular defensive play.
Thomas would win the contest, 3-0.
Averie Sheppard would reach base four times in the game, with two doubles, a walk, and a single.
Adreanna Killingsworth would hit a homerun to collect two RBIs.
Sierra Ussery would pitch a complete game, to pick up the victory.
FAULKNER 3, THOMAS 1
Thomas would score first during game two. Leading off the 4th inning,
AnnMarie McAfee would reach 2nd base by an error by the 3rd baseman.
Maggie Colgan would pinch-run for McAfee. Colgan would score when
Annalise Buncy reached base on another error by the 3rd baseman, to give the Night Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Faulkner would get three runs in the 6th inning to take the lead from Thomas, Those three runs would hold up, as the Night Hawks were unable to put any additional runs on the scoreboard, in their final two at bats.
Averie Sheppard would go 1-for-2 in the game, with a walk.
Annalise Buncy and
Allyson Mirick would each get a hit in the game.
The Night Hawks will face Point University, for Senior Day, on Saturday. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. and the first pitch, of game one, is scheduled for 2 p.m. GAme two will begin at approximately 4pm.
