Night Hawks Sweep Mid-Week Series

THOMASVILLE, GA | The Thomas University Night Hawks (24-22) faced off against the Trinity Baptist Eagles (17-21) in game one of a double header at Varnedoe Stadium for their final midweek series of the season.

GAME ONE:  THOMAS 5, TRINITY BAPTIST 1

In the bottom of the first inning, Kason Buie drew a lead off walk, followed by a one out Max Pickert double to left-center field, advancing runners to second and third. Jean Pool Checo's ground ball to the first baseman allowed Buie to score, giving the Night Hawks a 1-0 lead. A wild pitch on the first pitch to JT Whatley allowed Pickert to score, extending the lead to 2-0 at the end of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Night Hawks continued their offensive momentum, adding two more runs to their lead. Gabe Tafelski started the inning with a single, followed by Turner Maddox's four-pitch walk. A sacrifice bunt by Cameron Rosario moved the runners to second and third base. Buie then delivered a double into the left-center field gap, scoring two runs and extending the lead to 4-0.

The Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning with two outs, but only managed to score one run as Jacob Pino entered the game and secured the final out, extinguishing the threat and bringing the score to 4-1. In the bottom of the frame, TU answered with a run of their own JT Whatley hit a deep fly ball to center field and slid into third safely with only one out. Easton Willis worked a long at bat for a four pitch walk, Tafelski grounded a ball past the short-stop into left field for an RBI single to extend the lead back to four for the Night Hawks 5-1.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Eagles threatened again with a bases loaded jam, but once again Pino worked a ground ball to get the final out of game one with a score of 5-1.

Three Night Hawk batters had a multiple-hit game: Gabe Tafelski, Max Pickert, and JT Whatley, each recording two hits and a run scored.
