Thomasville, GA | The Thomas University Softball Team dropped two SSAC Conference contests to the Tigers of Stillman College on Friday afternoon.
Game One
The Night Hawks would strike first to take an early lead. In the bottom of the first inning, Ansley Eason would supply Thomas with their first run of the contest. An Eason RBI sacrifice fly would plate Sheppard, who reached via a walk. Thomas would lead 1-0.
Stillman would respond in the top of the third inning. The Tigers would plate one run on two hits to even the score, 1-1.
Ansley Eason would plate yet another run for the Night Hawks in the bottom of the third inning to regain possession of the lead. Hailie Stewart would kickstart the inning with a single, and would advance to second base on a Averie Sheppard sacrifice bunt. Stewart would then advance to third base on a Grace Hodges single. With Stewart sixty feet away, Eason would provide an RBI sacrifice fly to allow Stewart to cross the plate. Following the inning, the Night Hawks would lead 2-1.
The Tigers would provide a large response in the top of the fifth inning. They would plate two runs on two hits to lead the Night Hawks 3-2. In the following inning, they would add one additional run to further the deficit, 4-2.
The Night Hawks would fail to produce a comeback effort. The Tigers would take the opening game in the series, 4-2.
Game Two
The Tigers would carry the momentum gained in game one to the second contest. In the top of the first inning, they would plate one run on two hits. In the top of the third inning, they would then plate an additional run on two hits. After three innings of play, the Night Hawks would trail the Tigers 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Kennedy Hardy would even the score with one swing of the bat. Hardy would send her fifth long ball of the season over the left field fence, to plate two runs.
However, the Tigers would produce three hits and one run in the following inning to quickly regain possession of the lead, 3-2. Then, in the top of the seventh inning, they would plate two insurance runs on three hits.
The Night Hawks would not provide a response and would fall to the Tigers, 5-2.
Next Up
The Night Hawks will be back in action on April, 3rd to take on the Eagles of Faulkner University. The SSAC doubleheader will begin at 3 PM EST in Montgomery, Alabama.
