Night Hawks Fall to Tigers

Tuscaloosa, Alabama | The Thomas University Men's Basketball Team (9-14, 7-9 SSAC) faced off against the Tigers of Stillman College (16-7,13-3 SSAC) on Thursday evening.

 

Stillman would strike first in their first possession of the contest. This basket would lead to a 15-2 Stillman run, within the first four minutes of play. Jailin Lee would disrupt the Tiger's run with a layup at the 16-minute mark that would kickstart a 8-0 Thomas run. A Keon Williams three pointer would give the Night Hawks their first lead of the contest, 18-17, with 11 minutes remaining in the half. Williams would sink another three pointer less than a minute later to increase Thomas' lead to 24-17. Following Williams' second three pointer, the Night Hawks would up their intensity on defense, leading to two consecutive takeaways and a 7-0 run. The Night Hawks would lead 31-21 with seven minutes remaining in the half. The Tigers would then come storming back to even the score at 35 a piece with 3 minutes remaining, then regain the lead, 37-35, a minute later. This would kickstart a 23-0 Tiger run to end the half. The Tigers would hold a 43-35 advantage at the break.

 

Upon return from the break, the Tigers would carry this newly found momentum with them into the second half of play. They would begin second half action by producing a quick 5-0 run. Despite several Night Hawk attempts, Thomas would not be able to mount a comeback. The Tigers would steadily add to their lead and outscore the Night Hawks 45-38 in the final half of play. The Night Hawks would fall, 73-93, to the Tigers. 

 

Jailin Lee led all Night Hawks with 24 points and 4 rebounds. Jarvis Brown added 17 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. Keon Williams led the Night Hawks in rebounds with 5, while also supplying 11 points. Deonta Jones dished out 5 assists, leading all Night Hawks in the category. 

 

NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will be back in action on February, 10th to face the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM in Blue Mountain, Mississippi.
