Cochran, GA | The Thomas University men's basketball team (9-12, 7-7 SSAC) fell short in an SSAC match-up against the Knights of Middle Georgia State University (7-12,3-10 SSAC) on Wednesday evening.
As the first half of play got under way, the Knights would strike first in the form of a 3-0 run. Shortly after, the Night Hawks would respond with a 7-0 run of their own, highlighted by a pair of Noah Lattin layups. However, the Knights would find success from behind the arc to continue to apply pressure on the Night Hawk defense. A Jailin Lee three pointer around the 12-minute mark would help the Night Hawks pull within one point, 13-14. However, the Knights would continue to extend their lead for the remainder of the half, and would lead the Night Hawks, 36-31, heading into the break.
After their return from the break, the Night Hawk offense would seemingly come to life. In their first possession of the second half, Andre Lightbourne would drain a three pointer. Then, Noah Lattin would capitalize on a tip-in opportunity in the following possession to even the score, 36-36, with 18 minutes remaining in regulation. However, this would be short lived, as the Knights would quickly regain their offensive momentum. At the 13-minute mark, the Night Hawks would find success in the form of a 9-0 run, produced by efforts from Jailin Lee and Jarvis Brown. This run would help the Night Hawks pull with 4 points, 48-52, with eleven minutes remaining in the contest. However, the Knights would not back down. They would then go on a 11-2 run of their own to increase the deficit to 13 points, 63-50. Keon Williams would try to provide the Night Hawks with a sign of life by connecting on two three pointers on consecutive possessions, but ultimately, the Night Hawks would not be able to overcome the deficit. The Night Hawks would fall on the road, 67-81.
Jailin Lee would lead all Night Hawks with 16 points, while adding 4 assists and 6 rebounds. Jarvis Brown would contribute 12 points and 7 rebounds. Andre Lightbourne would supply Thomas with 11 points.
NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will return to action on February, 3rd to take on Life University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM in The Nest (TU Gymnasium).
