DALTON, Ga. - In a season full of triumphant highs and sullen lows, Thomas' season came to an end against No.1 Dalton State Roadrunners in the SSAC Quarterfinal on Friday night.
The first half showed a lot of promise as the Roadrunners came out fast on the attack,
Jorge Gonzalez faced his first two shots of the game only 51 seconds in, but was able to make excellent saves on both.
Connor Parry went on the attack and had an excellent opportunity to score but his shot went wide. The attack from Dalton kept coming as the Night Hawks faced five shots and two corners but the defense continued to stay strong against the unrelenting attack
The Roadrunners finally got on the board off on a tough deflection from a Thomas defender opened the door for a quick strike in the 31st minute.
Stanley Hooker had an opportunity to rebuttal on a header but it was saved by the Dalton goalkeeper. Going into the locker room, the Night Hawks faced a one point deficit with another 45 minutes to bring it back to level.
However, as the second half started the Roadrunners struck quick again on a tough shot to extend the deficit to two in the 47th. Finally, another Dalton goal in the 75th put Thomas away, but not before the Night Hawks best scoring opportunity came on a deep shot attempt from
Cameron Hawkins which just hit the crossbar but it was on target.
The Night Hawks finished their season 6-9-2 in their first season with head coach Billy Jeffery officially at the helm.
