The Thomas University Night Hawks take the finale against the Keiser University Seahawks, 6-3 and win the Sun Conference series two games to one. With the early start time of 10am, due to the forecast of rain, neither team was able to wake up and have any production early. In the first two innings, the two teams combined for three hits, while each team left a runner on base during its half inning.
Keiser removed the zero off of their side of the scoreboard in the third inning when Tess DeBono led off with a single. Addison Fyles would pinch run for DeBono and score on a Ashley Bullock sacrifice fly to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead.
Holly Campbell would begin a two-out rally for the Night Hawks in the bottom half of the inning by drawing a base-on-balls. She would subsequently steal 2nd base and score on an
Adreanna Killingsworth single, to tie the game 1-1.
Thomas would open the score up in the bottom of the 4th inning, plating five runs before the Seahawks could get an out. Catcher
Jaelynn Vialpando would lead off with a single.
Faith Graben, the courtesy runner for the catcher, would wind up on 3rd base when Keiser committed an error on an
Elizabeth Soto bunt attempt, placing the two runners on 2nd and 3rd base, respectively.
Ava Nunez would single both runner home to increase the score to 3-1. After a
Hailie Stewart single,
Grace Hodges would reach base by a fielder's choice, and a Seahawk error on the same play, would set up a bases loaded situation for
Averie Shepard. Shepard would earn an infield single to send another run home, make the score 4-1.
Holly Campbell would collect a single to score Hodges and Stewart, increasing the lead to 6-1.
Keiser would fight back in the top of the 5th inning. Following a Lizzie Small single and a Kelsie Merriman walk, Molly Reid would clear the bases with a triple, making the score 6-3. Starting pitcher,
Taylor Curry, would shut down the Seahawks to end the inning.
Allyson Mirick would pitch the 6th inning and start the 7th inning, before
Leanne Lain, yesterday's game two winning starter, would come in for the save.
With two conference series to go, the Night Hawks currently sit in 5th place in the Sun Conference standings, one game ahead of 6th place Warner, who they will face April 21-22, in Lake Wales, FL. This weekend, the Night Hawks will travel to Miami Gardens, FL to take on the Florida Memorial Lions, who are in 8th place in the standings. The Night Hawks are scheduled to play two games on Friday and one game on Saturday.
