GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Thomas University softball team scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to defeat Campbellsville University, 4-3, on Saturday in the Gulf Shores Invitational Tournament. The Night Hawks also fell, 4-1, to LSU-Alexandria in the event.

Thomas, 7-6 overall on the season, will battle Baker University and William Carey University on Sunday, the final day of the tournament.

Game One
Thomas got on the board with one run in the top of the first, then CU tied it up in the bottom of the third. TU plated one as
Jaelynn Vialpando doubled to right in the top of the fifth, but CU knocked in two with a double to right in the bottom of the frame.
Holly Campbell hit a sac fly to center to score the tying run, then a single to right from
Addyson Mauldin gave TU the 4-3 lead in the sixth.

Averie Sheppard went 3-for-3 in the game with a double and three runs scored, and
Grace Hodges was 3-for-4 with one run scored.

The Night Hawks collected 11 hits in the game, but left 10 runners stranded.

Amber Griffin got the start in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings. She struck out two, and allowed three runs – two earned – from four hits.
Michelle Norvell earned the victory, holding CU scoreless in 3.0 innings of relief.

Game Two
The Generals jumped ahead early, scoring a pair of runs in both the first and second innings. The Night Hawks scored one run in the bottom of the fifth as Campbell drew a walk, stole second, then scored on an RBI single from Mauldin. TU left two runners on base in the fifth then two more were stranded in the bottom of the seventh.

Sheppard and Mauldin each tagged a pair of hits in the game.

Leanne Lain pitched the entire 7.0-inning game, not allowing an earned run. She struck out two, walked a pair and allowed six hits.

The Night Hawks made seven fielding errors in the game, and the Generals posted five.
