Night Hawks Fall to Falcons at the Buzzer

Thomasville, GA | The Thomas University men's basketball team (3-7, 2-2) fell to Florida College (11-3, 1-0) in dramatic buzzer beater fashion on Saturday afternoon.

How it happened: The Night Hawks would display great offensive efforts to begin the contest. On their first possession, Thomas would take a three point lead courtesy of a Jailin Lee three pointer. However, the Falcons would match Thomas' ability to score and the Night Hawks would quickly find themselves trailing the Falcons by seven, 21-14, with twelve minutes remaining in the half. Thomas would then produce a 7-0 run, capped by a Tyson Anderson three pointer, to even the score at 21 a piece with ten minutes remaining in the half. From there, the Falcons would capitalize on several scoring opportunities from the charity stripe to build their lead to eight, 38-30. Keon Williams would then connect on a crucial three pointer to regain momentum and begin a 10-2 Thomas run. The Night Hawks would enter the half trailing the Falcons, 42-45.

In the second half of play, Andre Lightbourne and Jarvis Brown seemed to provide a spark for the Night Hawk offense. Nine minutes into the period, Andre Lightbourne would connect on a three pointer to give the Night Hawks their first lead of the half, 62-61. Just one minute later, Lightbourne would drain another three to increase Thomas' lead to 65-63. Jarvis Brown would then provide the Night Hawks with a three pointer and layup of his own to further increase the lead to 70-66. For the remainder of the half, each team would continue to find ways to score. With just 14 seconds remaining in regulation, the Falcons would capitalize on a pair of free throws to lead the Night Hawks 91-88. Jarvis Brown would then nail a three pointer with just eight seconds left on the clock to even the score. Despite Thomas' effort, the Falcons refused to be denied. At the buzzer, the Falcons would connect on a jumper to take a 93-91 victory.

In total: Five Night Hawks would see double-digit scoring. Jarvis Brown would lead all Night Hawks with 20 points and 4 steals, Andre Lightbourne and Keon Williams would each supply Thomas with 14 points a piece, Tyson Anderson would add 12 points, and Jailin Lee would total 11 points. In the assists category, Jailin Lee and Deonta Jones would lead all Night Hawks with 4 each. Devin Baney would lead the Night Hawks in rebounds with 7 total. As a team, the Night Hawks shot 43.1% from the field, 42.9% from three, and 86.1% from the charity stripe.

NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will be back in action on December, 16th in a SSAC conference matchup against Point University. Tip-off is set for 2 PM in the TU Gymnasium.
